Canada Music Council™ launches as an independent platform for Canada’s music industry.

TORONTO, January 2, 2024 — Canada Music Council™ today announced its launch as an independent platform focused on strengthening the professional and institutional infrastructure surrounding Canada’s music industry.

The Council’s mandate is built around the operating realities of a modern music economy: creators and creative teams, rights and publishing, recorded music, live performance, technology, market development and the professional organizations that connect these systems.

Initial areas of work include creator and industry education, research and sector intelligence, professional development, music-technology briefings, strategic convening and initiatives designed to strengthen connections across Canada’s music ecosystem.

Leadership

Mikhail Farquharson serves as Chairman of Canada Music Council™. The Chairman provides strategic leadership to the Council’s institutional direction and its mandate to support a stronger, more connected Canadian music sector.

A national industry platform

The Council is designed to work across disciplines and regions. Its programming will reflect the fact that Canadian music is developed through local scenes and communities while operating inside a global market shaped by streaming, touring, rights infrastructure, digital platforms and rapid technological change.

Canada Music Council™ will publish program information, research, industry perspectives and institutional announcements through its website as initiatives are confirmed.
